Tucked away in rural South Carolina is a hunting cabin that had good bones and plenty of stories to tell, but needed some revamping to bring it into a new era without losing what made it special.
Working alongside Cameron Kilpatrick of Associated Builders, the goal was never to make the cabin feel brand new. It was to preserve the character that was already there and build onto it in a way that felt natural.
On the hunt for reclaimed materials that felt authentic to the original cabin, the homeowner scheduled an appointment at our Concept Cottage Design Center. We knew we were on the same page when he walked in and said:
“Holy crap, this is exactly what I wanted.”.
From there, the vision started coming together.
Some of the original hand hewn beams that once made up the cabin’s walls were preserved and worked directly into the new design. Then, reclaimed flooring and various types of reclaimed wall and ceiling planking were layered throughout the rest of the home to help the new spaces feel just as timeworn as the originals.
"This was the first project that I worked with Southend Reclaimed on and it went so well that I've since worked with them on several more homes that I built, including my own personal house. They are the best in the business. I can't recommend them highly enough!"- Cameron Kilpatrick, Associated Builders
The end result of this project feels less like a renovation and more like the cabin simply grew into itself over time, and we were honored to be part of the journey.
