Customer Spotlight: Antique Heart Pine in 1980s Cape
In 2022, the Quist family purchased their dream property on Mount Desert Island, Maine. A western-facing waterfront home where they could soak up nightly sunsets and moor their classic Hinckley sailboat. The house itself? A cute but dated 1980s Cape that had seen better days.
What started as a “quick refresh” soon turned into a full-scale renovation, with every surface from the roof to the floors getting a fresh start. And the flooring is, of course, where we came in.
"When it came to the floors, my heart was set on old pine floors that would provide some patina and age to the home which you see in so many coastal cottages in Maine. I soon learned of the challenges of putting solid wood floors on a concrete slab in oceanfront locations. All the engineered wood options I could find just did not provide the depth of color and interesting graining that I was looking for until I discovered Southend Reclaimed."
Even from more than 1,000 miles away from our Concept Cottage in Davidson, NC, we were able to collaborate seamlessly with the Quists through calls, emails, and sample boards. Together, we landed on the perfect flooring choice: Engineered Antique Heart Pine.
